Matthew 8:23-27
Now when He got into a boat, His disciples followed Him.
And suddenly a great tempest arose on the sea,
so that the boat was covered with the waves.
But He was asleep. Then His disciples came to Him and awoke Him, saying,
"Lord, save us! We are perishing!"
But He said to them, "Why are you fearful, O you of little faith?"
Then He arose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm.
So the men marveled, saying, "Who can this be, that even the winds and the sea obey Him?"

Doesn't it sound heavenly to be able to fall asleep and enter into rest even in the midst of a storm? I don't know about you, but there are times when my life seems out of control buffeted about by raging seas of circumstances.

Every day, waves of doom and gloom inundate our lives spilling out from the pages of newspapers and screaming from network and cable news. Even our precious children are subjected to things at school we would have never thought possible a few years ago.

The physical earth itself is experiencing the birth pains of major transition as storms increase in intensity. Paralyzing snow-storms shutting down cities; floods ravaging through already devastated landscapes; innumerable earthquakes bringing historic devastation; and tornados tearing and ripping through towns in the middle of winter!

What is going on? Jesus is going on and that is good news! He holds all things in His sovereign hands! In the midst of the storm, He demonstrates what trusting His Father looks like. He slept through a raging storm and would have kept sleeping had it not been for His terrified disciples waking Him! Regardless the circumstance, He is in control!

The Lord brings calm to the tumultuous seas in our lives. He speaks to each one commanding the chaos to cease and it does because all things must obey Him. We have absolutely no reason to enter into fear, but every reason to enter into rest.

The next time you hear bad news or feel the effects of a storm, jump into the loving arms of your Father and snuggle close to His chest. From this quiet place, you will hear His heartbeat singing over you,

"Hush My precious one; close your
 eyes and sleep.
Trust Me, I've got you, the stormy
 seas will cease."
